What your music taste says about you!

September 8th, 2008 connectionist Posted in Connectionist, Connectionist (pods), random social commentary | 2 Comments »

What I have been suspecting all along has now been scientifically validated. Your music taste reveals clues about your personality (or how deranged you are). My greatest fears about the people I don’t like have been proved correct ;) Check this article on Yahoo News:

Music taste ‘linked’ to personality

ITN - Sunday, September 7 01:27 pm

A study by a psychology professor has found links between personality and music taste.

The Heriot-Watt university professor Adrian North said: “We have always suspected a link between music taste and personality. This is the first time that we’ve been able to look at it in real detail. No-one has ever done this on this scale before.

“People do actually define themselves through music and relate to other people through it but we haven’t known in detail how music is connected to identity.”

According to the study heavy metal fans are gentle, indie music listeners lack self-esteem and lovers of pop music are uncreative.

He found that country and western fans are hard-working, rap fans outgoing and jazz and classical music supporters are innovative and bursting with self-confidence.

Contrary to the stereotype, heavy metal fans are gentle and at ease with themselves but they tend not to be hardworking.

Those who listen to heavy metal and classical music share character traits of being creative, at ease and introverted.

But classical music fans have high self-esteem while heavy rock fans lack self-belief.

More than 36,000 people around the globe took part in the survey, the biggest of its type ever conducted.

They were asked to rate 104 musical styles in the study and were also questioned on aspects of their personality.

———————————————————————————

I assume techno fans didn’t condescend to take part in the study.

So I like thrash metal, classical music, jazz, rap, jungle, Drum’n'Bass, dubstep, techno, Schranz and Soca. What does that make me? A self-confident outgoing gentle but lazy sweatball with tendencies of masochism in particular with respect to painful basslines and ear-piercing kickdrums?

The Foundations Of Fodastech (Or Two Weeks Lost in Deep Space Portugal)

September 5th, 2008 Dubbybear Posted in Dipping the nib, Dubian (pods) | 4 Comments »

As some of our more observant visitors might have noticed there have been subtle changes to the site since the end of the now infamous Laugh! Sing! Dance! tour of Portugal by some of our collective’s members in August. Some were inside jokes (”Like a big bottle of cold water for your ears”) but one in particular is really meaningful: The swap of Fadotech to Fodastech in the sites address.

New Contemporary Acousmatic Noise

Hyaena Reich (Iana Reis) is a portuguese composer and performer. She has been developing a body of sound work since 1996. Her work spins around experimentation and improvisation, involving the capture of real life sounds and ambients, as well as improvised and planned sound sequences with uncanny sound sources - metal and wood objects, stones or the exploration of sounds in spaces with specific acoustic characteristics - being afterwards edited and sequenced according to soundtrack-building techniques, breaking the borders between mere experimental music and sound in cinematic space.

She has a background of Film Studies, Sound Engineering and Scriptwriting taken at the Lisbon Conservatory, is daughter of film directors Margarida Cordeiro and António Reis, has studied matters of improvisation, experimentalism and musicology with portuguese experimental pioneers Vitor Rua and Jorge Lima Barreto (from experimental duo Telectu) and has fronted the solo projects Imbolc, ZLKNF and Arraial, being also the head of experimentalist collective Sabotage en Masse.

This is a short bio of our new portuguese friend Iana Reis. She contacted LorenzFactor a few months ago  showing some interest in working together. We introduced her our DubEarth.com and ask her for some occasional participation in our family. As you can see she accepted the invitation.

The theme AGNELLA DIRIGIRE I is from 2008 and comes to us in first hand, because it is going to be part of the next album VIDEA (not yet released).  LUNGO IL SENTIERO VERSO OLTREMARE  is from 2004.

You can find her work @:

Hope her sound take you as far as we went and you enjoy the trip as much as we did!

“Honest pioneer work in the field of science has always been, and will continue to be, life’s pilot. On all sides, life is surrounded by hostility. This puts us under an obligation.”
